Well it seems that the longer I live here in “Mayberry” the more and more I begin to realize that we are total “transplants” and we are not the so called “norm” for this town. It appears that you have different levels and if your not on the level that you walk around with your nose up in the air (and maybe drown if it rains) then you are the bottom of the barrel.
Well my dear “air noses”. If it wasn’t for us “transplants” this town wouldn’t be anything. This town was made on the hard work and sweat of those that worked down the road at the mill. Just because you have your cushy lifestyle don’t look down on us. We raise our kids the best we can and then some, we pay the same taxes you do, pay our mortgages or rent, and we put our pants on one leg at a time also even though sometimes it’s a bit of a struggle or a rob Peter to pay Paul sort of deal, we survive and do the same as you.
So before you start judging people maybe you should stop and think or even consider that we are just like you. Heck, you might even realize that things are better then what you think.
Speaking down to or belittling us is not acceptable either. We are not stupid. Some of us do have college educations but instead of working and not being home for our children, we decided to raise our children and give them maybe something that some people don’t give these days. It’s called being a family. Others of us though, unfortunately don’t have this option and we do have to work, so we can’t always be with our children 24/7. Still, no excuse, we all strive to do the best we can and then some (I want to say that “we”, meaning everyone, does this too). We work a little harder and our days are a little longer. We don’t always get to call off for sick days or vacation days. Those things to us are a dream that maybe we will get some day.
At the end of the day we get something greater that maybe you don’t get. We get the love and support of our family. But I’m really hoping that you get this as well. You would be surprised to the greatest feeling in the world.
So if you have a question, problem, concern, or anything for that matter. Talk to us like a human being. Don’t act like you are so high and mighty, talk down to us, or treat us like you would a snake in the grass. We are human too. We have feelings. We all bleed the same color.
Pardon us if we don’t fit into your cliche/group, talk to you, etc. We don’t want any part of your drama, gossip, BS, or anything else for that matter.
Don’t go around judging us by our appearance, race, religion, or anything else. You don’t know us and you don’t know what kind of hell we may have been through. Because believe it or not the hell we went through only made us stronger. We may be the ones that you don’t want to mess with.
Remember this however, right now we may be on your “turf”, but sooner or later you will be on ours.
However on the brighter side of things I am finding more of “us” that can’t stand it either. So maybe our numbers are growing. I don’t know. But if we ever decide to stand, either by ourselves or together, you may in for a shock of your life.
